Fishing Rodeo at Lost Mountain Park Cobb Parks will be hosting the 'Annual Fishing Rodeo' on Saturday, July 16th from 9:00am–11:00am at Lost Mountain Park. Four age divisions will be offered: 3–6, 7–9, 10–12 and 13–16. Trophies will be given to 1st–3rd places in each division and for the “Overall Big Fish”. Adult Fall Softball and Kickball Registration Begins Soon Registration dates for the upcoming fall adult softball and kickball season have been set. Returning teams (those that participated in the fall 2010 season) can register online beginning July 1st. To register online, team captains will need a 'PIN' number and 'Log-in ID'. These can be acquired from their league coordinator. In-person registration begins Monday, July 11th for returning teams and Tuesday, July 12th for new teams. In-person registration will be held at the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs Administrative office located at 1792 County Services Pkwy, Marietta, GA 30008. Numerous Summer Camp Options Still Available There are plenty of summer camp opportunities available to suit everyone's needs. Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs offers day camps, art camps, art performance camps, golf and tennis camps. In addition, there are many other camps offered by outside organizations in Cobb. The recent Camp Expo had a variety of camps represented, including ballet and dance camps, church camps, scout camps and more. Looking for fun and enriching outdoor activities to do this summer with your kids? Join staff from Cobb County Water System and Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs this July for our Outdoor Romping and Creek Stomping Series. Educators from the Watershed Stewardship Program and the Natural Resources Program will be facilitating four adventure sessions this summer at local public parks from 9:00am–11:00am. Upcoming events are July 12th, 'Hiking, Heritage & History' at Hyde Farm in Marietta. This event is for those ages 7 and over. On July 26th, there will be a 'Family Scavenger Hunt' at Kennworth Park in Acworth. This event is for all ages. Registration is required for both events and the cost is $2.00 per person per event. Anderson Theatre Offers Theatre Camps for Budding Perfomers Jennie T. Anderson Theatre offers Theatre Camps during the summer months. The upcoming schedule is July 11-15 and July 18-22. Camp descriptions are as follows: E.T.C.
Camp - A
performance camp designed for the experienced or the unexperienced performing
arts ‘wannabee’. We accept rising 3rd-9th graders, and only expect our
campers to come with high energy and lots of enthusiasm. The fee to join
this camp is $80. A final camp show is performed at 7:00pm, on the Friday
night of each session. Prompt Camp - A musical theatre workshop camp for rising 5th-9th graders (note: this is not a performance opportunity). Campers work on their skills in acting, singing and dancing through study in vocal technique, stage presence and good audition materials. The fee for this camp is $40. This camp is an excellent follow-up for an E.T.C. camper. For more information regarding these camps or other programs at the Jennie T. Ward Recreation
Center is offering $4 Zumba classes every Thursday at 9:30am and every
Tuesday at 5:45pm. No sign-ups or commitment, just pay as you go! The Powder
Springs Basketball Academy Camp will be held August 8th-12th.
The camp is $125 for the week. The camp meets from 7:30am-5:30pm and is
for children in grades K-8. Registration is in progress. Piano
Lessons - We are offering Piano lessons to
youth and adults! Cost is $10 per lesson plus the initial book cost.
Classes
will be held on Saturdays at Ward Recreation Center. Choi
Kwang-Do - Choi Kwang-Do is a fun and exciting
way to achieve powerful, positive change. Condition your body and focus
your mind as you develop self-discipline to achieve the goals you set
in school, business, and your personal life. Choi Kwang-Do is a practical
form of self-defense taught in a safe and non-competitive environment
and teaches basic family values and character development. Classes are
taught by Master Beverly S. Busker, 5th Black Belt with 20 years of experience,
a degree in physical education, and the only female in the world to hold
this title in Choi Kwang-Do. Register in person with the instructor for
a 2 weeks free trial! Fees are $99 per month for unlimited classes. For information on any Ward Recreation Center program, call (770) 528-8885. Fun Summer Programs at Fullers Recreation Center Salsa!!!! Salsa!!! Salsa!!! - Beginning and Intermediate Salsa classes at Fullers
Park Recreation Center on Fridays from 6:00pm–8:00pm. Learn to dance basic
Salsa. Prepare to burn calories and have lots of fun as you enjoy the
Latin rhythms. The cost of each class is $10 per person. Introducing Yoga - Learn the best poses to develop your core while developing upper and lower body strength. Gain flexibility and good posture as you work at your own level of fitness. Yoga is great for releasing stress leaving you feeling relaxed and balanced. Yoga has it all!!
