National Tennis Tournament to be Held at Harrison Tennis Center

Cobb County will once again play host to the USTA National Open for boys and girls ages 16 and under.  The event will be held at Harrison Tennis Center from May 14th-16th.  This event attracts many of the top players from around the country. Past participants include several players who are currently playing on the professional tour, including rising star, Melanie Oudin. The draw will comprise of 32 boys and 32 girls who are nationally ranked. The competition will begin on Saturday morning with the singles events. Doubles will begin late Saturday afternoon. The tournament will continue through Monday, May 16th, when many of the finals are held. If you want to see some of our nation’s best young players, come out to Harrison Tennis Center during this event. You can keep up with the tournament draw on the tournament web site.   Many of Cobb's best players will be competing - come out and support some of our country's tennis best!!!!


Adult Summer Basketball Registration

Summer adult basketball is just around the corner. Leagues will be offered at Fullers Recreation Center at Fullers Park, Ward Recreation Center at Lost Mountain Park, and the Ron Anderson Recreation Center at Wild Horse Creek Park. In-person registration for new and returning teams will be Tuesday, May 17th from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Parks and Recreation administrative offices (1792 County Services Parkway, Marietta 30008). The league fee is $320 which includes a 7 game season and post season tournament. Numerous Summer Camp Options Available

There are plenty of summer camps avaiable to suit everyone's needs. Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs offers day camps, art camps, art performance camps, and tennis camps. In addition, there are many other camps offered by outside organizations in Cobb. The recent Camp Expo had a variety of camps represented, including ballet and dance camps, church camps, scout camps and more. 2011 'Fun in the Park' Photo Contest

As you are out enjoying Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs parks and activities, be sure to bring your camera and capture the fun and memories of your sports activities, the beauty of the nature and wildlife in the parks, and anything else that shows why you enjoy your day at the park. The 7th Annual "Fun in the Park' Photo Contest will be accepting entries through-out the summer. Enter up to 10 of your best shots for fun and awards! Open to all photographers. Volleyball Night at Ron Anderson Recreation Center

Come join us for Volleyball Night at Ron Anderson Recreation Center. We have an open gym for adults and teens who would like to come out and play volleyball. It is FREE to participate - just come on by. Volleyball night is every Wednesday night from 6:00pm-9:00pm. A great way to make some new friends, get some exercise and have some fun!!! Ward Recreation Center Offers Exciting Programs for Spring

Ward Recreation Center is offering $4 Zumba classes every Thursday at 9:30am and every Tuesday at 5:45pm. No sign-ups or commitment, just pay as you go!

The Powder Springs Basketball Academy Camp will be held August 8th-12th. The camp is $125 for the week. The camp meets from 7:30am-5:30pm and is for children in grades K-8. Registration is in progress.

Art & Soul - Nurturing Artistic Expression - Students will be encouraged to express themselves through their paintings and other art endeavors. The instructor will teach and explore color mixture possibilities using the color wheel, texture designs, and creative development. Various media work projects such as sponge designs and outline painting instruction will be explored.

Date: Saturday, June 11th (5 week session)
Cost: $55 for 5 weeks - all supplies included
Hours/ages: 9:30am-10:30am - K5-9 years old

Fullers Recreation Center Offers New Programs

SALSA!!!! SALSA!!! SALSA!!! - Beginning and Intermediate Salsa classes at Fullers Park Recreation Center on Fridays from 6:00pm–8:00pm. Learn to dance basic Salsa. Prepare to burn calories and have lots of fun as you enjoy the Latin rhythms. The cost of each class is $10 per person.

Introducing Yoga - Learn the best poses to develop your core while developing upper and lower body strength. Gain flexibility and good posture as you work at your own level of fitness. Release stress leaving you feeling relaxed and balanced. Yoga has it all!! The class is taught by a certified yoga instructor and meets each Thursday from 7:00pm–8:15pm.

Tennis Clinics for Ladies Offered at Harrison Tennis Center

Want to see real improvement in your game? Enroll in one of the specialty drills classes offered by USPTA professional, Randy Hancock. These drill groups are offered in six-week sessions and are $90 per session. On Monday nights, from 7:00pm-8:30pm, we have our Advanced Drill group. This is designed for the 3.5-4.5 players. On Wednesday mornings from 9:30am-11:00am, we offer a Ladies' Singles Drill group. This is designed for the 3.0-4.0 level players. Thursday nights, from 7:00pm-8:30pm is a Ladies' Doubles drill group for the 3.0-3.5 player. Friday mornings is the Ladies' Advanced Doubles drills for the 3.5-4.5 level player. The technical aspect is emphasized in these drills with time to play in each session. For more information, please contact Randy at (770) 365-2246, or email at rh10s@aol.com. In addition to these groups, every Monday morning, from 9:00am-10:30am, Randy offers an Open Doubles Drill session. Cost is $15 per visit, or $50 for any 4 visits. This is open to ladies of any level.
