Smokey Robinson Coming to MHBA The Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre continues to bring great acts to metro Atlanta this summer including “The King of Motown” Smokey Robinson, Survivor, Starship, and John Michael Montgomery. The summer concert series is always hot so come out and have a good time. Smokey Robinson will perform on July 22nd. Given his legendary status in pop culture and his ever-personable nature, it’s no surprise that Smokey Robinson is not only still recording quality music as he celebrates 50 years in the music industry, but attracting top-notch talent to collaborate with as well. As an original member of Motown Records' first vocal group, The Miracles, and as a solo artist, Robinson delivered thirty-seven Top 40 hits for Motown between 1960 and 1987. "Tracks of My Tears", "Tears of a Clown", "Second That Emotion" are just a few of his Top 40 Hits. or call (770) 819-7765. Cirque D'OR Performs at Mable House The Golden Dragon Acrobats will perform Cirque D'OR at Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre Thursday and Friday, July 8th-9th. Golden Dragon Acrobats represent a time-honored tradition that began more than 27 centuries ago. From Hebei, China, the company has traveled around the world and to all 50 states. Performers are trained in the art of acrobatics since youth and the troop has gained international acclaim. A reporter for the Washington Post wrote about the performance, "There is a precision and beauty about everything these performers do." The
show begins at 8:00pm both days. Prices for adult reserved seats are $25
and $10 for children 12 and younger. Lawn seats for adults are $15 and
children 12 and younger are $6. A table seating four directly in front

Department Director Named 2009 Silver Eagle Award Winner The Cobb County Board of Commissioners recently recognized Eddie Canon, Director of Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs as the 2009 recipient of the Silver Eagle Award.
Each year, the Silver Eagle Award is presented to a member of the Cobb County Management Team who is selected by his/her peers. The award recognizes a team member who has demonstrated teamwork and exhibited outstanding leadership among the Department Management Team during the calendar year.
In addition to his peers on the Management Team, Mr. Canon, PRCA Director since 2007, is well-respected throughout the state for his dedication and leadership and enjoys the respect and support of his staff and the Cobb community. Congratulations, Mr. Canon! Fishing Rodeo at Lost Mountain Park Cobb Parks will be hosting the 'Annual Fishing Rodeo' on July 17th from 9:00am–11:00am at Lost Mountain Park located at 4845 Dallas Hwy in Powder Springs. Four age divisions will be offered: 3–6, 7–9, 10–12 and 13–16. Trophies will be given to 1st–3rd place in each division and for “Overall Big Fish”. Adult Fall Softball and Kickball Registration Begins Soon Registration dates for the upcoming fall adult softball and kickball season have been set. Returning teams (those that participated in the fall 2009 season) can register online beginning July 1st. To register online, team captains will need a 'PIN' number and 'Log-in ID'. These can be acquired from their league coordinator. In-person registration begins Tuesday, July 13th for returning teams and Thursday, July 15th for new teams. In-person registration will be held at the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs Administrative office located at 1792 County Services Pkwy, Marietta, GA 30008. Grab your pith helmet, jump in the jeep and head to Africa with the Art Station – Big Shanty’s children’s summer camp, Art Safari. You never know where you’ll go as you trek through this continent ... Morocco, Kenya, Swaziland or maybe Mozambique. You may travel to the Ivory Coast or to the Sahara desert but wherever you go you will learn about the culture, animals, history, and art of the region. This African Art Safari has something for children from 4 year old pre-schoolers to eighth graders and features painting, drawing, clay, drama, photography, and much more. Let’s Move and Learn - Financial Fit Kids
Give your kids a class they will never forget that will truly have an impact on the rest of their lives. Coach Peter will teach your kids important life lessons in the areas of savings, debt, credit cards, budgeting, and credit scores. The cool thing is that your kids are going to have an amazing time learning, because the lessons will be taught through games and physical activities they already know and love!!
