Beloved
Musical Coming to Anderson Theatre in April
The
sun will come out at Jennie T. Anderson Theatre when the legendary
musical "Annie" returns to delight a new generation of theatergoers.
The winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, "Annie"
will make its debut in a brand new production by the Atlanta Lyric
Theatre April 4th-20th.
Little
Orphan Annie charms, despite a next-to-nothing start in the 1930s
New York City. The play's score includes the optimistic anthem "Tomorrow,"
plus "Maybe," "Hard Knock Life," "You're
Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile," "Easy Street,"
"I Don't Need Anything But You" and "NYC." Jeannie
T. Anderson Theatre is located adjacent to the Cobb Civic Center at
548 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta. For more information, or to
buy tickets, visit atlantalyrictheatre.com.
Silver
Comet Bridge Repair and Resurfacing Continues
Five
Silver Comet Trail pedestrian bridges will be closed for repair in
the coming months. Cobb DOT contractors will construct new bridge
ends at the Silver Comet Trail bridges over Powder Springs Creek,
Lucille Creek, Noses Creek, Olley Creek and Cooper Lake Road. The
Silver Comet Trail bridge repair is funded by the 2011 SPLOST.
After the Silver Comet bridge repair work is completed this April,
Cobb DOT will be coordinating a resurfacing effort, funded by the
2011 SPLOST, which will affect the entire stretch of the Silver Comet
Trail within Cobb County. Resurfacing is expected to begin in early
June and is scheduled for completion before the Labor Day weekend.
The
12.8 mile trail will be repaired and resurfaced in 4 or 5 sections.
Each 2 to 3 mile long section will be closed to all traffic for 2
to 3 weeks. Work will include pavement repair, resurfacing, restriping
and shoulder restoration making the entire trail look like a brand
new trail. Each section will be completely finished and opened before
the next 2 to 3 mile section is started and closed. While the Silver
Comet will be closed at these construction sites during this time
frame, the entire trail will be completely open on all weekends and
holidays. The final schedule and segmentation of the sections will
be verified by the contractor, after the successful bidder is determined.
Cobb DOT expects to confirm the resurfacing schedule by early May
and will post it on the Cobb DOT website.

New
Game in Town - Pickleball
Lost
Mountain Tennis Center will be offering a new program called PICKLEBALL.
We
will provide some equipment that includes paddles and balls. If you have
your own, feel free to bring them. The goal is to introduce players to
the game and to schedule some play dates!
Pickleball
is a sport played with a hard paddle and wiffleball. The game combines
elements of badminton, tennis, racquet ball and ping-pong, and is played
on a badminton-sized court. It is played as a singles game with one person
per side or as a doubles game with 2 people on each side of the net. The
object of the game is to score points by successfully hitting a 3"
diameter plastic ball across the net without it being successfully returned
by the opponent.
Pickleball is a simple game designed for all ages and any athletic ability
level. Today the sport is played by people all across the country. Many
seniors have taken up the sport in their retirement years, but it is also
played by thousands of school children and top athletes in their 20s and
30s. It is an easy sport to learn and everyone can play the game after
just a short time of hitting the ball back and forth across the net. However,
it is also a sport where you can keep learning new strokes and increasingly
sophisticated strategies for years on end. As the sport has grown in popularity,
it has continued to be played in back yards, but it has also spawned many
competitive tournaments across the country. Classes
for Pickleball begin at Lost Mountain Tennis Center beginning the week
of April 14th. For more information, call Traci Thomas
at (770) 528-8525. Come join the fun!
