Fishing Rodeo at Lost Mountain Park Cobb Parks' Natural Resource Management unit will be hosting the 'Annual Fishing Rodeo' on Saturday, July 27th from 9:00am–11:00am at Lost Mountain Park. Four age divisions will be offered: 3–6, 7–9, 10–12 and 13–16. Trophies will be awarded for the most fish caught in each age group as well as the 5 biggest fish overall. Us In Celebrating East Cobb Park's 10th Anniversary Adult Fall Softball Registration Begins Soon Registration dates for the upcoming fall adult softball season have been set. Returning teams (those that participated in the fall 2012 season) can register online beginning July 1st. To register online, team captains will need a 'PIN' number and 'Log-in ID'. These can be acquired from their league coordinator. In-person registration begins Tuesday, July 9th for returning teams and Thursday, July 11th for new teams. In-person registration will be held at the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs Administrative office located at 1792 County Services Pkwy, Marietta, GA 30008. Registration will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm both days. For more information, see the adult softball web page or call (770) 528-8860. Free Nature Event for Kids The Georgia Native Plant Society will have a free event at Heritage Park for kids on Saturday, July 13th. Children (with a parent) between the ages of 5-14 can come by the trailhead between 10:00am-12:00pm. See what is happening in the woods and wetlands and watch habitat restoration in action as the volunteers do their work. The first twelve children to check in will receive a native plant that can be taken home and planted. The featured plant for this month is the American Beautyberry - a medium-size shrub that grows in the butterfly garden at the head of the trail. Everyone age 15 and above is invited to help in the restoration of this beautiful park and to learn about gardening with native plants. Natural Resource Management Offers Fun Programs in July Outdoor programs offered by the Natural Resource Management unit of Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department provide children an opportunity to learn about nature in a fun and hands-on way. Outdoor Pools Open July 4th for Summer Fun!!! The outdoor pools are currently open and will be open for normal hours on Independence Day, July 4th. Cobb has two outdoor pools: Powder Springs Pool and Sewell Park Pool. Powder Springs Pool is located at 3899 Brownsville Road in Powder Springs. Sewell Pool, located at 2055 Lower Roswell Road in Marietta. Pool hours are 1:00pm–5:00pm, Tuesday–Sunday. For more information regarding the pools, see our website.
The 'Patti Wilder Swim Meet' will be held at Mountain View Aquatic Center on July 12th-14th. This is the Cobb County summer swim league championship, where swimmers from 70 neighborhood swim teams can compete and qualify for the Cobb County State Swim Team that will compete in the GRPA State Swim Meet in Gainesville, GA on July 26th-27th. The top 3 finishers (ages 8 and up) in each event will qualify for the Cobb County State Swim Team. Once qualified, that team will practice for 2 weeks at the Central Aquatic Center and then compete in the GRPA State Meet in Gainesville. Good luck to all the Cobb competitors! Hunting Permit Registration for Corps Property Beginning Soon Cobb County's Corps Property allows bow hunting for deer, by permit only, during hunting season. Permit registration will begin on July 13th at 10:00am and end when 300 permits have been issued. Permit registration will be through EZ-Reg online registration. There will be a $10 fee assessed during the registration process. Applicants will have to attend a training session to complete the registration and pick up their permits. To register online with EZ-Reg, you must have a Log-in ID and PIN number. If you do not have a Log-in ID and PIN number, please download and complete a Family Account Information Form and take your form to your closest recreation facility (recreation center, tennis center, art center, etc...). The center staff will create your account and provide you with an ID and PIN number. The barcode for online registration for the hunting permit is 62076. of Art Camps Offered This Summer Students can only register for one of the elementary camps and must have reached 4 years old by March 11th, 2013 (new policy for summer 2013). Also new this summer is the 'Dig a Little Deeper' camps for ages 9-12 (one week per child only). Summer camp registration is currently in progress. All of our camp offerings are available at www.theartplace.us and you can register in-person or register online through our website. Mable House Arts Center - Give your child an Asian Art experience without leaving the country. We will tour a variety of destinations including China, India and Indonesia. Students will receive instruction in multiple artworks during this art emersion camp. Each week offers a different curriculum. Stay for just the morning or combine afternoon classes for an extended day. Afternoon camps include clay, performing arts, drumming and much more! Summer camp registration is currently in progress. Call the Mable House Arts Center at (770) 819-3285 to register or register online or in-person. The Art Station-Big Shanty - 'Art Across America' is the theme for our summer art camps. Strap on your seat belt and enjoy the ride on this fun-filled cross-country road trip! Each day we'll "visit" a different art museum and campers will create their own art based on that facility's collections. We offer camp options for ages 18 months through 18 years of age. Summer camp registration is currently in progress. Don’t wait, register early as camps are expected to fill quickly! Jennie T. Anderson Theatre - Performance Camps E.T.C. is the Exciting, Entertaining, Educational Theatre Company. This energetic and fun camp is for students who enjoy the performing arts and want to be on stage. Campers will rehearse a musical show to be performed for family and friends. Campers should have an equal interest in singing, dancing and acting. No experience required—just high energy and enthusiasm.
