Time is Now to Register for Spring Sports and Activities There is no excuse to not be active this spring, as Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs offers many opportunities to learn new things or to compete in an athletic program. Many sports and activities have registrations in progess or beginning soon, including baseball, softball, soccer, track, tennis, and BMX. Our youth league programs are administered by volunteer organizations, so dates and times of registrations will vary. For specific information on the activities your child is interested in participating, click on the following links: baseball, softball, soccer, track, tennis, and BMX. Adult spring softball and kickball registration begins February 21st. For those interested, you can download a registration packet on the adult softball or adult kickball web page. See the adult athletics web page for a listing of all adult athletic programs. Registration for spring session classes is currently in progress for arts, recreation center, and tennis programs, and begins soon for aquatics (February 17th-18th), therapeutics (February 22nd), and gymnastics (March 4th). Many classes or programs will fill up - don't be left out!!!! Contact your facility for more information on classes and other activities offered this spring. Nature Appreciation for Toddlers It is never too late to 'plant the seed' of nature appreciation and wonder in your children. Bring your toddler(s) (ages 2-4) and join us for a morning of outdoor nature exploration, stories, songs and more! Our next program will be held on February 16th, and the program will be 'Holes by the Hundred'. This program will be held at the Jean and Elwood Wright Education Center located at 2661 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, 30062. The fee for this program is $2.00 per child. Encore Series Kicks Off With 'Hairspray' The 2012 Encore Series at Jennie T. Anderson Theatre is underway with a performance of “Hairspray” by Pebblebrook High School. "Hairspray" is a musical based on the 1988 film of the same name. The show is a lighthearted social commentary on the injustices of parts of American society in the 1960s and includes downtown rhythm and blues and dance music of the era. "Hairspray" will run February 2nd-5th. The rest of the Encore season will feature performers such as Peter Noone, Chubby Checker, Jay and the Americans, the Coasters, the Platters and the Marvelettes, and Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers. School Tennis League Registration in Progress
Montana Skies will perform at the Art Place Mountain View on February 4th at 8:00pm. The group's name, Montana Skies, is a metaphor for musical freedom and the award-winning musicians deliver music from Pink Floyd and Rush to Vivaldi, House of the Rising Sun and Bach, as well as their own originals. Blending elements of classical technique, jazz improv and rock n' roll, the duo's guitar and electric cello combine to create a unique sound. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. For more information, visit montanaskiesmusic.com. Special Olympics Winter Games a Success! Cobb County recently hosted the 2012 Special Olympics Georgia Indoor Winter Games. Over 2,900 athletes and coaches from across the state were in attendance. The Opening Ceremonies were held at the Cobb County Civic Center and the event included the lighting of the torch and the victory dance, which was a big hit with the athletes. The competition was held throughout several facilities in Cobb, where athletes competed in powerlifting, bowling, roller skating, floor hockey, gymnastics, basketball, and individual and team basketball skills. Thanks to all the volunteers who worked throughout the weekend to make the games successful. A great time was had by all! The Mable House Arts Center Offers Spring Break Camp Looking
for something for the kids to do during spring break? The Mable House
Arts Center will be offering Spring Break Camp on April 2nd-5th.
This camp will give students the experience of four full days of concentrated
art. Each day will be filled with different projects of two and three
dimensional multimedia. This fabulous camp is $75 with a $10 supply fee
to cover costs of materials. Camp will meet Monday-Thursday from 9:00am-3:00pm
and is for children ages 6-12 years. Call the Mable House Arts Center

Exciting Classes Offered at Ward Recreation Center Ward Recreation Center is offering a full slate of diverse and exciting classes and activities for the spring. Classes include affordable piano lessons for adults and youth, dance classes for all ages, ZUMBA and ZUMBA Gold classes, and Choi Kwang-Do martial arts classes. Fair Oaks Lobos Inaugural Flag Football Event Beginning
March 20th, Fair Oaks will offer youth flag football
which will include practices, games and championship tournament. T-shirts
and flags will be provided. The fee will be $75. Register your child in
March and receive a discount on your football registration in the fall!!!

Fair Oaks Lobos website. Tennis Strategy Drills at Harrison Tennis Center Harrison
Tennis Center is offering Monday night adult doubles strategy drills with
teaching professional Jonathan Lockeretz. Drills will include groundstroke
and net play drills specific to doubles strategy and movement. The 1½
hour sessions includes stroke production drills and point play. There
is a limit of 12 people and is for intermediate to advanced players. The
fee is $16 per person per day. The drills are held each Monday night in
February, beginning February 6th. Please contact Harrison
