Join
the Theatre Project’s Footlights Fall Production of Disney’s Aladdin Jr.
We welcome you to Agrabah, City of Enchantment, where every beggar has
a story and every camel has a tail! All of your favorite characters are
here in this stage adaptation of the Disney hit, including Aladdin, Jasmine,
and of course, the Genie. Filled with magic, mayhem, and flying carpet
rides, audiences’ spirits will soar with excitement. Most of all, the
tuneful, Academy award-winning score with songs including “A Whole New
World” and “Friend Like Me” will certainly make this musical a favorite
for many years to come!
Registration has begun
for the Theatre Project's Disney's Aladdin, Jr., a theatre experience
for ages 9-18. Cost is $150 plus refundable $50 attendance fee. Auditions
begin August 18th and 23rd. All students will get a part in the play.
Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays 6:00-8:00pm and Sundays from 2:00-5:00pm.
Performances will be November 6th and 7th at 7:00pm and the 8th at 3:00pm.
Casting for the production will begin soon. We are currently registering,

Kennesaw
Archery Club Member Hitting His Targets During National Archery Championships
Christopher Luman of the Kennesaw Archery Club recently had a
third place finish in the Cadet division (ages 14-16) at the National
Junior Olympic Archery Development Championships in Downingtown, PA. Chris
shot at targets from as far as 70 meters while battling winds of 20-25
mph. His placement in this competition and points earned earlier this
year has propelled him to a #2 national ranking for his division. Chris
will be traveling to Mason, OH in August for the USA Archery National
Championships representing Cobb, Georgia and the Kennesaw Archery Club.
Chris
credits his success to the JOAD program at the Kennesaw Archery Club located
in Pitner Road Park in West Cobb County. “Without this program, I would
be nowhere near the level I am today. Thanks, Cobb County for providing
a place to learn.” His goal is to make the US Olympic Team in 2012 or
2016.
Congratulations
Chris on your accomplishments and for making Cobb proud! For
more information about the Kennesaw Archery Club, please visit their website
at www.kennesawarchery.org.

One
of America’s most popular genres of music, bluegrass continues to draw
crowds with its happy, up-beat style and folk music traditions. Lead vocalist
and guitarist, Johnny Roquemore, has been performing in Georgia and California
for several decades. Currently performing with the Bluegrass band and
working on his father’s hay farm, he has earned Creative Loafing magazine’s
choice as “Best Local Singer/Songwriter.” John Nipper, a native of the
Newton County area, plays banjo, mandolin and harmonica with the Apostles
of Bluegrass. In his 17 years’ experience as a musician in the Atlanta
area, he has been no stranger to gospel and country music, but bluegrass
is where his heart is. He’s played with Georgia Overdrive, Alissa McCance
and other well known bluegrass musicians. Marcus Bramlett, bassist for
the Apostles of Bluegrass, who has been playing upright bass for six years,
has developed his own smooth yet aggressive style. He also provides a
quick wit and on-stage humor that adds to the dynamics of the group. For
more on The Apostles of Bluegrass visit: www.myspace.com/apostlesofbluegrass.

Ron
Anderson Recreation Center Offers Programs Supporting Teens and Youth
On July 16th, the Ron Anderson Recreation Center, in partnership with
the Powder Springs Community Task Force, received a check for $500.00
from the Cobb and Douglas Public Health Department for their participation
in the Annual Tobacco Free Kick-Butts campaign. The Kick-Butts Campaign
is a Campaign designed to get teachers, youth leaders and advocates to
help youth stand out, speak up and seize control against tobacco.
In addition, The Powder Springs Community Task Force had a Teen party
on Friday, July 17th at the Ron Anderson Recreation Center. The purpose
of this event was to raise money to help support the Annual Back-to-School
Bash and the purchase of school supplies for the residents of the Powder
Springs Community. During this fundraiser, we were able to raise $1038.00.
The Back-to-School Bash at Ron Anderson Recreation Center will be held
August 1st from 10:00am-3:00pm. This event is sponsored by the Powder
Springs Community Task Force and is for Powder Springs residents only
(valid ID verification will be required for school supplies). The school
supplies will be issued from 12:00pm-3:00pm. There will be various
activities, fun and games, and music. This is a great opportunity
to meet your neighbors and community leaders.
