The tennis courts at Bells Ferry Park and Sweat Mountain Park are being reconstructed and should be ready to play in late May. These heavily used courts have been overdue for some much needed repairs. Also in late May, repair and resurfacing will occur at the tennis courts at Wallace Park. Funding for the maintenance of these facilities is provided through the lease of cell phone towers located in sevaral parks. Beginning in late May or early June, new court construction will begin at Big Shanty Park and Harrison Tennis Center. Big Shanty Park will receive 4 new tennis courts that will be adjacent to existing 4 courts at Kennesaw Mountain High School. Cobb Parks and KMHS will be utilizing these facilities via a joint agreement. The new courts at Harrison Tennis Center will be 6 mini courts (36 feet long). This exciting project is possible through the joint efforts of Cobb County, the Harrison Area Community Tennis Association, the United States Tennis Association, and several other supporters including ALTA and USTA-Georgia. These will be the first of their kind in the nation. The courts will be used to teach tennis to children using the USTA QuickStart program. The courts will also be used for QuickStart league play, and instructional programs for adults, seniors and special populations. If you would lilke to support this program, the Harrison Area Community Tennis Association is selling engraved bricks that will be placed in the spectator areas of the new courts. Have your name or your group, business, etc. name permanently engraved on a brick and support youth tennis in Cobb!!!! Contact Harrison Tennis Center at (770) 591-3151 for more information.
