Local Athletes Receives Golden Eagle Award
Cobb County’s own Kelly Kettles received the Golden Eagle Award for displaying the utmost in sportsmanship during the 2008 Professional Tennis Registry's Tennis Tournament held at Hilton Head. The award was presented to her by Mr. Dennis Van Der Meer along with a tennis racquet signed by him. Kelly was voted for this award by her peers, coaches, volunteers and sponsors of this event. It was her caring attitude, eagerness to help other athletes and her enthusiastic personality with everyone that contributed to this honor. Kelly, an accomplished Special Olympian, said this award was more important to her than any medal she has ever received.  Congratulations Kelly for making Cobb proud!!!!

Cobb Singles League - Cobb's Tennis League for Everyone!!!!

The Cobb Singles League is a tennis league where you compete against other players of similar ability.  Levels range from NTRP 2.0 - 5.0.  The 2.0 level is for very beginners - this is a great opportunity to try out your first tennis league.  You do not need to be part of a team - you register individually and you will be matched against other players at your level.  This is a flex league where you play when it is convenient for you and you can play anywhere in Cobb County where there are tennis courts (parks, clubs, or subdivisions).  There are two seasons each year - Spring season and Fall season.  The spring season begins April 21st. The Cobb Singles League is a great way to to enjoy fun competition and to meet new people!!!  Registration for the spring league is currently in progress.  The entry deadline is April 11.  For more information and registration brochure, see the Cobb Singles League web site.

'The Captain's Tiger'

presented by the Theatre Project's Spotlights.

On board the SS Graigaur a young sailor begins to pen his first novel. Assisted by his muse, a portrait of his mother comes to life, and supported by his friend, an illiterate ship's mechanic, he struggles to balance romance and reality. This most personal of Athol Fugard's works is strictly autobiographical; at twenty he abandoned his university education, hitchhiked up Africa and ended up on a tramp steamer in Port Sudan. This play reflects his attempts to come to terms with the conflicting emotions evoked by memories of his courageous mother and flawed father.

'Seussical'

presented by the Theatre Project's Footlights

A musical extravaganza by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, who have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and all of the Whos of Whoville! These classic, colorful tales are seamlessly brought together by Jojo, a young boy and “thinker of strange and wonderful thinks”! As each story unfolds you will marvel at how relevant and profound Seuss’s subtle themes are; making this musical one that appeals to all ages.
