Cobb Receives ASA Award Of Excellence
The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) presented Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department with its James Farrell ASA Award of Excellence at its recent national convention in Louisville, KY. Cobb received the award in recognition of having hosted one of the ASA’s highest-rated national championships in 2007. The department played host last September to the Men’s (10) Modified Pitch National Championship at the Lost Mountain Softball Complex and posted an overall score of 97 based on ratings by the participating teams, ASA national office, ASA umpire-in-chief and ASA office representative. Cobb County, which has hosted 39 ASA national championships since 1981, has received the Farrell Award each year since 1992 when the award was instituted by the ASA.

Cobb Awarded Prestigious ASA National Tournament
At its recent national convention in Louisville, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) awarded Cobb County its 2009 Girls' 14-Under Class A Fast-Pitch National Championship. The tourney will be played July 26 - August 2, 2009, at both the Al Bishop and Lost Mountain softball complexes. About 140 teams from across the country are expected to participate. Cobb last hosted an ASA Class A youth tourney in 2003 when the county hosted the 12-Under Class A nationals. Since 1981, Cobb has played host to 39 ASA national championships, including the Men’s (10) Modified Pitch nationals played last September. In 2008, Cobb will host the ASA’s Men’s Class D South Slow-Pitch National Championship during the Labor Day Weekend.
