Family Fun Fest The
Cobb County Family Fun Fest will combine with the annual Cobb County Make-A-Wish
5K to make an event for the whole family on Saturday, October
13. Fall Festival of Fun The
Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department along with
Cobb County 4-H and the Cobb Safe Kids are hosting the 7th Annual Fall
Festival of Fun on October 31st at Jim R. Miller Park.
The event will begin at 4:00pm and end at 7:00pm. This event will provide
the children of Cobb County a safe alternative to the traditional Trick-or-Treat
in their neighborhood. Mud Creek Soccer Complex Ribbon Cutting Cobb's newest park - the Mud Creek Soccer Complex will have a ribbon cutting October 17 at 3:00pm. The soccer complex was built on 26 acres of land located at 5600 Ernest Barrett Parkway between Macland Road and Powder Springs Road. The complex has 3 full-size and 2 half-size soccer fields, a concession / restroom building with an open breezeway, a playground, a half-mile concrete walking track, and plenty of parking. The complex is currently utilized by two youth associations: the Cobb Futbol Club and the YMCA. For information regarding this new park, contact Jeff Abrams at (770) 528-8896. 'Celebrate the Arts' Fall Festival The Art Station – Big Shanty and the North Cobb Arts League invite you to our 4th Annual “Celebrate the Arts” Fall Festival. Join us on Saturday, October 20th from 10:00am – 4:00pm and on Sunday, October 21st from 12:00pm – 4:00pm. There will be artist demonstrations, a gallery exhibit, art for sale, make ‘n’ take art projects, food, and live entertainment including Etowah Jazz Society on Sunday from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Special Olympics Georgia Fall Games The Special Olympic State Fall Games competition will be held in Albany, GA October 12-14. Competition will be held in bocce, golf, long distance running and walking, and softball. A total of 120 athletes and 34 coaches will be representing Cobb at the games. There will be 3 traditional softball teams as well as softball skills athletes; 6 traditional 4 player bocce teams and 6 unified 2 player bocce teams; 8 unified 2 player golf teams playing 18 holes as well as golf skills athletes; and 6 long distance walking/running athletes who will compete individually in the 3K and 1 mile events. Cobb wishes our delegation the best as they go for the gold in Albany!!! Red Ribbon Week At Ron Anderson Recreation Center During the month of October the Ron Anderson Recreation Center will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon week is the week of October 20 – October 28. Events and activities will begin at 5:00pm.
Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country. Red Ribbon Week serves as a vehicle for communities and individuals to take a stand for the hopes and dreams of our children through a commitment to drug prevention and education and a personal commitment to live drug free lives with the ultimate goal being the creation of drug-free America . Thanks for the Silly String!!!! The Art Station – Big Shanty would like to thank everyone who contributed to our Silly String drive. With the help of several enthusiastic community groups we surpassed our goal and collected nearly 1000 cans to be sent overseas to help keep our soldiers safe! Tennis Court Construction Update Resurfacing of the tennis courts at Lost Mountain Tennis Center has been completed. The courts are US Open blue and green and look great!!! Renovation has begun at Fair Oaks Tennis Center and will continue through October. For programming information regarding Fair Oaks, contact Larry Snyder at (770) 528-8480. 'Fun in the Park' Photo Contest As the summer winds down, don't forget to bring your camera to the parks and take pictures for the 'Fun in the Park' Photo Contest. This contest is open to photographers of all skills. Submit your best shots that represent you and your family enjoying our parks. For entry form and to view photos from previous years, see our web site. Positions Available The Art Station – Big Shanty is looking for new art instructors. We specifically need artists experienced in teaching drawing and watercolor to children ages 6–10, but instructors versed in any medium and any age group are welcome to apply. Please call us at (770) 514-5930. Staff Notes Get well wishes goes out to James Chastain, Western District Athletic Coordinator, as he underwent hip replacement surgery on September 24. The surgery went well and he is recovering at home. He is set to return in early November. |
