Cobb To Host National Softball Tournament

Cobb County’s long-standing relationship with the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) continues this month as the Recreation Department hosts the 'ASA Men’s 10-man Modified Pitch National Championship' from August 31 - September 3 at the Lost Mountain Softball Complex in west Cobb. This year’s tourney is the 39th ASA national hosted in Cobb County since 1981, but marks the first time Cobb has hosted the 10-man modified pitch tournament. Modified pitch competition features the offensive skills that dominate slow-pitch softball, coupled with the defensive skills evident in the fast-pitch game. Coming from across the country, 25-35 teams are expected to participate in this year’s national which will begin at 6:00pm on August 31st and continue through Labor Day. For tournament or ticket info, contact the Al Bishop Softball Complex at (770) 528-8860.

Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening for Ron Anderson Recreation Center

The Ron Anderson Recreation Ribbon cutting will be held on Friday, August 3rd at 10:30am. The center is located at 3820 Macedonia Road in Powder Springs. The 'Grand Opening' of The Ron Anderson Recreation Center will be held Saturday August 4, from 10:00am to 3:00pm. We will be working in collaboration with The Powder Springs Community Taskforce and Cobb Community Collaborative, Drug Free Communities Support Program in hosting the '6th Annual Back-to-School Bash' in the Powder Springs community. There will also be free book bags and school supplies given out as long as the supplies last. And let's not forget about the free food, fun activities and community resource information for the entire family. So come out and enjoy the fun!!!

Once the building opens we will be offering an after school program entitled 'The RARC Academy'. This is a structured program designed to promote a spirit of cooperation, build self-esteem, encourage healthy competition and develop lifelong recreational interest among all program participants. It will also provide tutioral, mentoring and reading into this program, which creates an opportunity for the children to complete their homework, increase their reading skills and develop leadership skills through positive mentoring. The academy will accept children ages 5 to 17 years of age, and will start this September.  For more information, call (770) 439-3611.
