The Cobb County Summer Swim League requires that any coaches who are to be alone on deck with the team must have the proper American Red Cross Certifications. There are two types of certifications that a coach may have:
1. Lifeguard Training - this certification includes water rescue skills, first aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. There are two certificates for this certification - Lifeguarding and First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. The Lifeguarding and First Aid certificate is good for 3 years from the date of completion while the CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer is good for 1 year from the date of completion. For the Lifeguard and First Aid certification to valid, the coach must keep current the CPR/AED for the professional rescuer certification.
2. Safety Trainning for Swim Coaches and Sports Safety Training - these are two separate classes and the coach must have BOTH in order to be alone on deck with the team. The Safety Training for Swim Coaches Certification will give the coach basic water rescue skills, while the Sports Safety Training will give the coach First Aid and CPR skills. Here again, the Safety Training for Swim Coaches and the Community First Aid certifications are good for 3 years from the date of completion, while the Community CPR certification is good for 1 year from the date of completion. The Safety Training for Swim Coaches and Community First Aid certifications are only valid so long as the coach keeps the Community CPR certification current.
